BIG JIG HEADS .... BUY HERE
Nothing more enjoyable than fishing in the most uncomplicated way as possible especially when drifting a wreck or reef, not only is it effective and enjoyable it allows you to re-rig quickly and continue the drift or be ready for the next one. Our jig heads suit the bill perfectly and you can set them up to find what is best to work on the day to get to the fish. We made the bullet head range first and they swim really well in the tide and are well balanced. The big head added more flexibility with it being articulated it allows for setting up any of the options in the kit and with using stainless steel one piece tags there is durability without corrosion causing an issue during the life of the big head. The big head is available in 4 sizes so you can use the best weight to suit the various tides of the day, it's best to have a bit of drift angle when presenting the jig to the fish and I use the slow 20 turns sink and draw method from hitting the wreck/reef.

LUMI TUBES IN USE  .... BUY HERE
So you're out on a boat along with 8/10 others all fishing 2-3ft apart and all your baits are jockeying for position to pull that big cod, pollock or bass and you're thinking how can I make my jellies or pirks stand out in front of your crew mates. Slip on a lumi tube and let there be light and behold the cod are now jockeying for YOUR pirks/jellies. So here you can see some examples of how we use the lumi tubes, we supply the tubes with two diameters of silicone tubing so the tube can connect with plenty of sizes from mono to thick shafts on 10/0 O'Shaughnessy's, large trebles or fine wire hooks. The tubes have up to 12 hours light and for their costs they are an accessory that is a must have in any tackle bag.

CONGER - LING - RAYS RIG
Strong fish with sharp teeth that need a rig to match their ability to get away once hooked. Heavy mono is use 150/250 lb breaking strains and
secured with heavy duty crimps. The O'Shaughnessy range of hooks are totally suited for this type of fishing, strong and reliable. Don't consider
using trace wire if you fish with braid they most Deffo do not like each other and the wire will saw through the braid if it gets the chance.

10/0 and 8/0 hooks plus a finished trace complete with 250lb swivel

The 8/0 hook strong O'Shaughnessy pattern

The crimping pliers, crimps double sleeves size finished trace with heavy duty swivel

The double sleeves are crimped in two places for added strength

The swivel needs to be matched with the BS of the mono so it doesn't fail.

INTERLOCK SWIVELS .... BUY HERE
This pattern of swivel with the quick link attachment works well in setting up rigs especially when drift fishing on wrecks or reefs. I attach my braid straight
to an interlock swivel as that is the direct contact I like, you will have your own views on this as some like to have a shock abrasive leader attached to braid
then whatever connection or knot used. Reason I like this method is the quick changes or re-rigs that can be done when on a drift. Size 2 is my most used
size and if fishing for lunker cod or big pollock I wouldn't go much smaller than that, smaller sizes ok for bream, whiting, mackerel etc. Easy to use and can be
re-used just make sure you rinse them off in freshwater the same day as your fishing trip or they will corrode and may let you down when it counts.

FISH FILLETING KNIVES .... BUY HERE
Most skippers have filleting knives on their boats some well looked after some that wouldn't cut soft butter so it's worth having one in your tackle bag of preparing your baits and filleting the fish you catch if you're planning to fish for your freezer. There is a range of knives in the store and I randomly selected this one to review.
All filleting knives need to be slim and flexible plus extremely sharp so always handle with care and cut away from YOUR FLESH.

HOOK REVIEW .... BUY HERE
There are two styles of hooks that I favour, again it's a personal preference and they are styles that have worked for me over the years so if it ain't broken why try and fix it. Aberdeen fine wire for bass and bream and for all others I use baitholder hooks which work well for fish and worm baits. For experienced anglers you will know the sizes that work for you and for novices this information may be of assistance in selecting the right hook for the job in hand.

Aberdeen fine wire hooks

6/0 hooks good for Cod, Bass, Pollock, turbot, fish with big mouths.

5/0 hooks Pollock small bass

4/0 missing too many bites drop down a hook size is usually the answer

Baitholder hooks not the barbs on the shank to stop your baits sliding and bunching on the hook.

Closer view of the baitholder barbs

The ruler will give an overall impression of this range of sizes

8/0 hook good size for large cod, conger and rays

6/0 hooks for Cod, Pollock and fish with big mouths

4/0 mid range hook for small pollock, codling, whiting

3/0 whiting small pollock plaice large

1/0 flatfish whiting and bream if missing bites go smaller

Size 4 bream good fun on light rod and tackle for mackerel

Info about hook sizes and how they work

Couple of useful easy to tie knots for your hooks

In most cases trying to sharpen chemically or laser sharpened hooks out of the packet will actually blunt them.

MY PREFERRED SOFT BAITS AND BULLET HEAD RIGS
You will all have your own ideas and this is how I like to use our bullet heads and similar with the big heads. The rig setup allows for you to quickly
re-rig when you have snapped off in a wreck or craggy reef bottom.

Roo Barb Bullet Head With Trace & Lumi Tube prepared ready for quick rigging

45/50lb braid reel line with no2 or no1 crane swivel , 40lb trace, lumi tube and bullet head how simple is that ?

Setup allows for quick changes or re-rigs plus more weight can easily be added here

My tip use an ordinary paper clip for a breakaway if adding more weight this will reduce tackle losses.

My Killer rig and it works very well indeed. Bullet head jig with lumi tube as the base lure, Shad or worm on the boom

We know our rigs work as this 18lb cod shows one of 12 that day ! This one was on the bullet head dressed with a muppet on the drift over a wreck.

12lb Pollock one of 18 that day taken on the bullet head with a mix of jellies, muppets and shads drifting a wreck off Poole Dorset

Herne Bay Rig, I grew up in Kent and fished the Kent coast for many years so know this and the paternoster rigs well.

The spoon is plastic and the green beads are the lumi type, size 1 bait holder hook keep the worms in place.

Hook sizes I start with size 1 bait holders and then if missing bites I go down as low as size 4 and that usually gets the fish
